Martha Eberhart married Heinrich Mötteli in first half of the 20th Century and settled in Turbenthal, Switzerland, helping her husband with the already almost a century old nursery business called "Mötteli Bluemehuus" which still exists today. She is remembered as a kind, devoutly religious and hard-working mother of four children: Robert, Heinrich, Marti, and Hans. Her children and grandchildren remember the hymns she used to sing as she worked or cooked, and the primary importance she placed on worshiping God.
Unfortunately, her first-born son, Robert, died at the young age of 21, in a tractor accident. Later, her husband died from injuries sustained after being hit by a motorcyclist as he crossed the street next to the local church, just a 100 meters from the family home.
This tragic event thrust the oldest surviving son, Heinrich, into the role of head of the family and the one who would take over the family business. When this happened, Martha continued to live in the family home, helping create flower arrangements and doing other chores necessary to support the family business. Later, instead of moving into a nursing home, she moved in with her daughter, Marti, and helped her and her husband Sylvio Rüegg raise their two children.
She never complained. She continued to sing hymns of praise to God until she no longer had the strength. She died at the age of 84.
She was buried in the Turbenthal Friedhof in a family plot along with her husband and son Robert. Later, other of her children have joined her.
Unfortunately, her resting place will soon be reclaimed for reuse as is Swiss law. Nevertheless, She'll continue to be remembered on the Eternal Portal for her example of motherhood and devotion to family.
