Intro text

A Celebration of Life     Isadore (I.D.) Bryant, a native of Minter City, Mississippi, (LeFlore County), closed his eyes for a nap at 12:10pm; God reached out and took his hand on Thursday, June 2. 2011 then lifted Isadore to His side and led him home to spend eternity.   Isadore was born on July 29, 1919 and departed this life leaving behind nine plus decades of love and service - love of family, beginning with his parents, Eddie Bryant and Maggie Lee Copper Bryant, love for his four sisters (Georgi Ann, Amy Lee Bryant, Rosie Lee Bryant Greer, and Lillie Tucker, unending love for his late wife "Baby" Sadie Susie Dunbar Bryant, indescribable love for his five daughters (of whom Dorothy Jean preceded him), grandchildren, great grandchildren, loving relatives, and church members.  Isadore surrounded himself with what he loved: family, church, and for many years employment at Roadway Express where he retired after 30 plus years of service.    In addition to preaching the gospel and pointing others to Christ, I.D. Bryant always had some kind of work project going on.  He started a laundry business, had the girls selling snowballs, maintained a lawn care service, had the garden growing, and he even grew worms for fishing.  He just had to do something all the time and in doing so he developed the same work ethic and spirit of excellence in others that he possessed himself in those who worked with him.  He used these “projects” as teaching moments.  He even drafted his girls and nephews to write or develop sermons he would preach; again teaching moments.  One way or the other we would get the word in us and we have been made all the better because of him.   The mere mention of the name Isadore or I.D. Bryant evokes memories of service to mankind, gentleness, kindness, and compassion.  He not only embraced these values for himself, but continually instilled them in his precious family members by his actions or by his belt!   In August 1930 at the age of 11, Isadore confessed and acknowledged Jesus the Christ as his personal Savior, during a revival at a log cabin church called Palestine Baptist Church.  He was baptized in a lake called Beaver Dam by Pastor BJ Sykes.  He accepted his call to preaching the gospel at the young age of 13.  He actually received his call to preach when he was converted but said he refused to accept the call. The Lord then struck him blind.  His sight was restored when he acknowledged his call to preach the gospel.  He didn't want to preach because his father, grandfather, and uncles were all preachers and he didn't want anyone to say that he was doing it because of that.  Then God appeared to him in a vision and told him he would be able to see again when he obeyed his call.  He was licensed and later ordained by Pastor BJ Sykes.   Rev. Bryant left Mississippi and resided first in Kinloch, Missouri where he joined the Second M. B. Church under the late Pastor Paul Butler and remained under the current pastor Rev. Dr. Earl Miller until he founded and pastored New Canaan M. B. Church in Wellston, Missouri. Years later in St. Louis, Missouri he was also ordained by Bishop Honor Newsome in the Church of God in Christ, Congressional.  Becoming duly ordained in both the Missionary Baptist and Church of God in Christ (COGIC) denominations!  He also pastored a Baptist Church and COGIC Church simultaneously in St. Louis, Missouri.  His Pastorages were:  Mt. Zion Baptist, Elmwood, Missouri, Assistant Pastor Greater Faith Baptist Church, Founded and Pastored New Canaan Baptist Church in Wellston, Missouri, and then at the death of a local pastor combined that membership and the church was renamed Green Grove M. B. Church.  From Sunday School to the evening service Rev. Bryant could be found at the church.  Many a quartet group passed through those doors lifting up the name of Jesus "every" Sunday night.   Rev. Bryant joined the Ark of Covenant Worship Center under the pastorage of his first born Overseer Mary Miller or as Daddy says his "Pastor/Teacher".  He remained there as a Pillar of Strength to the congregation, Prayer Intercessor and Warrior, Demonstrator of a true "Man of God" until the Lord called this Good and Faithful servant home!   He can best be described as a Servant of Mankind for the Glory of God!   Precious memories are cherished by his four remaining girls, Overseer Mary Miller, St. Louis, Missouri, Minister Dianne "Billie" Bryant, Lynder Scott, both of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama, and Susan (Andre) Blake, Harvest, Alabama. Nine Grandchildren:  Arletha Miller, Manhattan, New York, Minister Renita Miller, St. Louis, Missouri, Shonda Miller, Huntsville, Alabama, Veda Macon, University City, Missouri, Cherlyn Miller, Denver, Colorado,Victor Macon, II (Laura), University City, Missouri, David Blake, Harvest, Alabama, Minister Anthony L. D. Scott, St. Louis, Missouri, and Jonathan Bryant, Owens Cross Roads, Alabama.  Five Great Grandchildren:  Jelani Cormier, St. Louis, Missouri, Santania and Kamryn Courtney, University City, Missouri, Dorothea Macon, University City, Missouri, and Solomon Blake, Huntsville, Alabama; a special spiritual daughter, Rev. Paula Word (Pastor Alex), Normandy, Missouri, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  Rest for now "Servant", we'll see you in the morning!!

May happy memories sustain the family and bring some comfort to your heart. He is healing the broken-hearted ones, and is binding up their painful spots.(Psalms 147:3)
